What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are unlike other tooth replacement options. Consisting of three parts: the titanium or zirconia posts, abutments, and customized restoration, they offer a stronger, more durable, and natural-looking solution that mimics the appearance and function of normal teeth.

When placed within the jawbone, the biocompatible titanium easily fuses to the surrounding tissues to create a firm base that supports a custom-crafted crown, bridge, or denture.

The 4-Step Dental Implant Process

  • Initial Consultation: To determine if dental implants are right for you, a scheduled consultation is required. You’ll meet with one of our implant dentists to discuss whether you require gum disease treatment, tooth extraction, bone grafting, or additional preliminary treatments before receiving your newly placed implants.
  • Dental Implant Surgery: To help you remain comfortable during your surgery, you’ll receive local anesthesia to numb your mouth before each dental implant is put into place.
  • Osseointegration/Abutment: Dental implants require between four and six months to fuse with the existing bone (osseointegration), which is what you can expect after surgery. Once you are fully healed, though, your metal abutments will be put in place on top of each post so that your new restoration remains secure.
  • Delivery of Final Restoration: Before you can begin to enjoy the many benefits of dental implants, we will need to add your newly crafted teeth to your smile. Using our local and/or in-house lab, we will build a beautiful restoration that will sit atop your implants and create a stunning restored smile.

Benefits of Dental Implants

The benefits you can expect from dental implants are nothing like what you would receive if you were to choose dentures or a dental bridge. Instead, you’ll enjoy:

  • A jawbone that remains fully stimulated because of the placement of each implant post. The dental implant post will deliver stimulation to the bone to ensure its density and strength, effectively reducing the chances of facial collapse and tooth loss over time.
  • A more confident appearance that you can enjoy for 30+ years because these implants act like natural teeth.
  • A more cost-effective method of tooth replacement because you’ll spend less in the long run avoiding replacements every few years. You also won’t need to purchase any denture adhesives or special products over time.
  • A form of treatment that has a high success rate of 95% upon initial placement. This number can remain just as high even 10 years later!
